by Shontay Luna
The Devil stares at me
discontentedly as I’ve
unburdened myself of
the concrete gray cloak
of antipredation. That at
one time sheltered me
so violently, holding me
hostage. That captured
and collected the blood
of many generations in
opaquely bleak time-
lines. Justice an expert
at playing Hide and
Seek with lives of
color in prison
populations whose
numbers are boldly
elevated behind
political agendas that
stead only the
politicians.
